Dear Vashon Friends,

Governor Inslee’s recent announcement is a first step to reopening, and we are eagerly optimistic.  However, there are several policies and risk assessments  that must be conducted before we will be approved to move to the next phase.  This four-phased approach will be detailed later next week once the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) receives the final approval on the proposal they submitted on behalf of all long-term care facilities.

Until we are approved, visitation is still prohibited at VCC. The governor’s announcement contained many mandates and requirements that must be met by each building before visitors can be allowed. While the announcement did talk through some criteria for visitation, there are many other criteria that must be met in order for us to move into the next phase. As long-term care providers, we all have been privy to a lengthy document outlining the stringent criteria and regulations around what ‘re-opening’ means. There are several criteria that MUST be met at each phase for each building before we can allow visitation.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.  We truly have felt so much support and love during this time and cannot thank you enough.

In other news, I am pleased to announce our newest team member, Susan Riemer. Susan has accepted the position of Community Relations Director for VCC and will be working on all of our marketing, outreach and occupancy within the community.  You may recognize her name as she was the former editor of the Vashon Maury Island Beachcomber, and we are thrilled to have her leading in this role.  Please extend a warm welcome to Susan; sriemer@vashoncommunitycare.org.

Yesterday, we were privileged to join in a Zoom presentation by Music Mends Minds as they were featured on CNN.  The residents were thrilled by this very favorite activity.  We continue to do  small group & socially distanced activities.

We have openings on our care team and are looking for certified nursing assistants or home care aides. If you know of anyone who wants to join our incredibly dedicated team, please share my contact information.

Wishing you a safe and happy weekend!  Remember to wash your hands frequently and wear a mask.

Warmly,

Wendy Kleppe
