Dear Families and Staff

Vashon Community Care has gone into a required lock down after receiving test results on Christmas Eve that a resident had contracted COVID-19. Based on timing of symptoms and other factors, it appears that the resident was infected during a brief stay on the mainland for medical treatment, away from the VCC facility.

The infected individual has been isolated at another site and VCC has implemented the procedures required by the state’s Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). DSHS along with DOH have opened an infection control investigation as is standard practice for long term care facilities with 1 or more positive cases.  All residents and staff were tested on Christmas Day and a second round of required testing happened today.  Test results are still unavailable from our testing on December 25th; a sign of how overwhelmed the labs are.

We will retest all staff and residents on January 5th which will be our 14 day mark and will remain in our current protocols until day 28 where all staff and residents remain negative for COVID.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions, comments or concerns you have.  My cell number is the best way to reach me.

I will continue to keep you updated as I learn more information.

Thank you for your support during this time.
