Dear Families, Residents & Staff,

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, VCC staff, residents and families have worked hard to keep residents protected from the virus. That work is continuing now and will continue for the foreseeable future, as residents’ wellbeing is our top priority.

This last week, I have been keeping you updated regarding a resident who tested positive for COVID-19 after spending time in an off-island medical facility, where he contracted the virus. It is with a heavy heart, and permission from the resident’s family, that I am letting you know the resident passed away last evening at the hospital. This individual was a beloved member of our VCC community, and we extend our thoughts and prayers to his family and the many other families who have endured such a loss in the last 10 months.

As we move forward, we continue to adhere to state regulations for COVID outbreaks in long-term care facilities, and we have nearly completed two rounds of testing of all staff and residents. To date, all tests have come back negative, a result for which we are truly grateful.  We will be testing all residents and staff again on Monday, January 4th, which will be our 14-day marker.

Our sister community, Skyline, sent over the Skytron disinfecting machines this week, and we are aggressively using those to eradicate any contamination with their effective ultraviolet light hospital-grade systems.

In the midst of this challenging time, we were extremely pleased to participate in our first vaccine clinic on Dec. 23; our second vaccine clinic will continue as planned on January 13, followed by our third clinic in February. We are fortunate that our pharmacy partner, Consonus, has made this process immediate and smooth for us.

As we move ahead these next months, I encourage all of you to keep taking care of yourselves and the wider community in the ways you have been, with diligence to washing your hands, wearing a mask and social distancing.

As always, please reach out to me with questions.
